29/11/09 | Scout Troop Award and Appointment Ceremony

On 28th of November, Cuon Scout Group gathered to celebrate the awards and appointments of our members.

First, the Best Patrol for the Year 2009, went to Jackal Patrol for its outstanding performance.

Second, the Merit Patrol for the Year 2009, was awarded to Tiger Patrol for its excellent performane.

Third, Rover Scout Tan Kajun is now officially appointed as the Assistant Scout Leader.

20/09/09 | International Coastal Cleanup Singapore 2009

Every year on the third saturday of September, volunteers from all around the world will head down to the beaches, mangroves and coastlines to remove marine debris and collect data. This event, the International Coastal Cleanup, is an occasion for many around the world to demonstrate their commitment to preserving the environment. And to demonstrate our commitment, on the 19th September 2009, Cuon Scout Group together with more than a hundred Scouts, Ventures and Rovers from Tampines District came together to help remove marine debris from the beaches at Pasir Ris Park.

A total of 1867m of coastline was covered, 28 trash bags were filled and 189kg of marine debris was removed from our shores.. Among the trash found includes drum barrels, the base of a lamp post, sofa cushion, broom sticks, air conditioner, but the greatest number of trash found were plastic bags and sytrofoams, both numbered at 299 pieces each.

 

14/09/09 | Tampines District's Scout of the Year Award

Gina Chan Hui Jia, TL of Cuon Scout Group - Scout Troop, has won the Tampines Scout of the year Award 2009 as 1st runner up. She is officially appointed as the Troop Leader(TL) of the troop in 2008 and since then, the troop has progressed much under her leadership. The troop has attained the Frank Copper Sands Award – Gold and this can’t be achieved without her guiding the troop along. Her commitments and services to both the troop and society are all well recognized by many. We are proud of her achievement.

12/09/09 | Hougang Ranger Scout Gangshow

In the evening of 12 September 2009, Cuon Scout Group attended the Hougang Ranger's Gangshow. Named as DiscoPop, the participants had great fun dancing and singing to the retro and modern pop hit songs. Thank you Hougang Rangers!

12/09/09 | Mangrove Reforestation Programme

On 22 August and 12 September 2009, Rover Chairperson Suyong and Rover Scout Nicholas helped out in the National's Mangrove Reforestation Programme. The Programme consists of two parts - mangrove salvaging on 22 Aug, where participants have to retrieve newly grown mangrove saplings from the mangrove swamp, and mangrove replanting on 12 Sept, where participants get to replant the mangrove saplings that were retrieved.

On 29 August, 20 of our Scouts participated in the Archery Level One Proficiency course conducted at the HomeTeamNS club house in Bukit Batok.

15/08/09 | Newly appointed Assistant Scout Leader-In-training

Dear All,

Ms Syaza Dinah was appointed by the Group Scout Leader on 1 August 09  as the Assistant Scout Leader-in-training to the Scout Troop.

She will assume to the post of Assistant Scout Leader with effect from 10 January 2010 after her training from the National Institution of Education (NIE) and the Singapore Scout Association.

20/07/09 | Scout of the World Programme: Project Orion

On the 20 June 2009, Rover Nicholas along with 8 other Rover Scouts from Singapore and Malaysia, embarked on the Scout of the World Programme (Voluntary Service): Project Orion - Rovering with Turtles.

Project Orion - Rovering with Turtles is the 2nd Scouts of the World Programme (Voluntary Service) Project of the Scout of the World Award, Singapore Base.

The project was set upon the beautiful wetlands and beaches of Setiu, Terengganu. Lasted 16 days from 20th June to 5th July, the team not only contributed to the conservation work of sea turtles, but were also involved in mangrove replanting, repair work for the villagers and WWF info centre, English and conservation awareness education, assistance in the local women's cottage industry amongst many others.

22/03/09 | Venture Scouts Conversion Course 2009

Cuon Scout Group warmly welcomes 3 of our Scouts, who has successfully completed the Venture Scout Conversion Course and has been invested as Venture Scouts. The candidates had to undergo a series of training and assessments for 3 months, and finally undertake a 2 day 1 night self reliance and initiative camp on Sisters Island, where they were invested as Venture Scouts. Congratulations to the 3 Venture Scouts!

17/03/09 | First WWS Green Badge Recipient

We are proud to announce that our Venture Scout Julius D. Roberts is the first Scout to received the WWS Green Badge.

An excerpt from the newsletter of Waterways Watch Society:

"Julius completed a total of 8 tours of duty together with our members on bicycle and boat patrol. He was energetic throughout his attachment and was given hands-on experience with members on patrol on the litter and pollution concerns inside and surrounding the Marina Reservoir. Julius believes that we must all help to keep our environment always clean and healthy and he now hopes to encourage more scouts to join the WWS Green Badge Program. His strong passion in this work made him decide to sign-on as a member of the WaterWays Watch.


WWS today have partnerships with other uniform organizations like the Boys Brigade. Going forward, we hope to have many more such green badge partnerships with other uniform organizations.

16/01/09 | Volvo Ocean Race

On the 16th January 2009, 17 of our members participated in the Volvo Ocean Race carnvial held at Sentosa Cove 1 degree 15.

This is the first time that a South East Asian Country will be participating in a prestigious world class sailing race. Activities included performances, games and exhibitions.
